Welcome to Administrator’s Reference Guide

Introduction

Welcome to the Xactly Modeling Reference Guide. This guide describes how to create and manage your company compensation information within Xactly Modeling. This guide is written for compensation administrators and explains how to set up compensation plan elements.

Xactly Incent is the only comprehensive on-demand sales compensation application. Xactly Incent’s rules-based architecture gives companies the flexibility to easily create and manage any type of compensation plan. Real time web-based visibility provides strategic value to all levels of the organization.

Xactly Modeling enables you to create and use a secure model environment to analyze alternative compensation plans and organization structures.

Introducing Xactly Modeling

Xactly Modeling provides a secure, comprehensive, and efficient way for you to preview the effects of business volumes forecasts and changes to your compensation plans or organization structure. Using Xactly Modeling, you can:

  • Create a model environment in which you can analyze alternative compensation plans and organization structure scenarios against current transaction data
  • Update aspects of the model environment to analyze the impact of changes to forecast expenses
  • Update your Xactly Incent environment by copying data and settings from the model environment

Xactly Modeling is fully integrated with Xactly Incent, and enables you to develop detailed hypothetical plans and run comprehensive tests using multiple scenarios to forecast expected variable compensation expenses. This enables you to rapidly generate alternative compensation plans.

You can then transfer new compensation information to Xactly Incent. By eliminating the need for redundant data entry, Xactly Incent reduces the chance of errors being introduced into your production environment and increases compensation analyst productivity.

Xactly Modeling further enables you to:

  • Project cash requirements well in advance. Using Xactly Modeling, you can forecast expenses using actual and projected orders to accurately determine future cash requirements.
  • Reduce the risks associated with rolling out compensation plan changes. You can model compensation plan changes, involving both minor adjustments or major realignments, to determine the potential consequences before acting.
  • Preview the impact of planned organization changes. You can use Xactly Modeling to experiment with changes to the organization structure, and view the potential effects on both the top and bottom lines.

You can use Xactly Modeling to validate compensation programs prior to committing to them and to generate expense projections as accurate as those produced in Xactly Incent.

About This Document

This document is organized to match the design of the Xactly Incent application user interface.

Using This Document

The Xactly Incent and Xactly Modeling application is divided into tabbed areas. Each tab contains a group of features that define a piece of the compensation framework and are targeted towards a specific user. The following chapters describe each of these tabbed areas:

Home appears when a user logs in. This area allows users to display a series of informational pods (in the myHome area), search orders and results, and display plan information.

Setup lets you define general application details by setting up business groups, roles, users, the incentive calendar, company messages, and type codes, such as currencies and user-defined types. These items are typically the first to be created.

Data is used to export and import data and system settings between Xactly Incent and Xactly Modeling. Administrators can also check the status of export and import operations, and download export data and settings to the local system. And once a week, you can do bulk extracts of data for archiving purposes.

Organization lets you specify information about the people in your company who receive compensation, including titles and relationships.

Company Data lets you set up company-specific information that is used in incentive compensation rules. This area provides the ability to define product, customer, and geography hierarchies.

Plan Design defines the elements of incentive compensation plans, including quotas, formulas, rate tables, rules library (direct credit, indirect credit, commission and bonus), draws, plans, and templates.

Orders lets you upload and create sales orders, and organize the orders into batches. This area lets you validate batches of orders, and initiate credit and incentive calculations. And you can also create validation rules and corresponding validation error messages.

Results shows calculated credits, commissions, bonuses, draws, and payments. From this area, you can also create manual credits and bonuses, and download payments.

Reports lets you view incentive compensation through dynamically-generated standard reports.

Analysis lets you create scenarios apart from your production environment, assign plans to them, and save aggregated results sets as scenario snapshots. You can also create reports and charts that graphically illustrate scenario snapshots.

myIncentives shows individuals their compensation, including an Incentive Statement, Incentive Details, and Plan Summary.

Incentive Estimator allows an individual user to run “what-if” incentive compensation calculations, based on actual plans and YTD attainment. This area provides visibility into performances before, during, and after a sale.
